My First Outing With The Girls
By Kathleen De Mayer

I went out last September for the very first time to a gathering of t-girls and transgenders in a town in Belgium. Before that day, I walked home alone, for example, a quiet town at night, a churchyard... but now I wanted to take the big step and let myself be seen with others. And even talk to them. So last September, I took all of my courage and I drove to the city in Belgium where the monthly gathering of transgenders was held. I drove for one hour with the car because I didn't have the courage to get out of the car in the subterranean parking lot. The chance that I drove back home without getting out of my car was less. But once there in the parking lot, I got out of the car and walked through town for the very first time to get to the gathering. Once there, I was welcomed so kindly by the female hostess. I drank wine and made friends. One special thing for me that night was when they asked my name... "Kathleen". This is a moment I will never forget. Since then, I have gone twice a month to the gatherings without any fear. I go for drinks with the girls to a bar, not LGBT specific. I hope I can soon do the normal things other genetic women do, like shopping, visiting museums, and so on, even travel en femme.
